What is Circumcision?
 
Circumcision is the surgical removal of the mucosal tissue and skin layer covering the head of the penis. This double layer is more commonly known as the foreskin. It is the most common surgical procedure applied to children in our country and in the world.
 
After birth, the foreskin is usually adhered to the penis. It then separates spontaneously. In general, the foreskin cannot be retracted for a few years after birth and should not be forced.
 
Methods:
 
The surgical method is the most widely accepted method and the one we also use. It is done by surgically cutting the foreskin and sewing the ends together. It provides very good cosmetic results. Laser or cautery method is the cutting of the foreskin with electric tools called soldering iron or cautery.  It is not recommended because it can be seriously dangerous and may leave permanent locks. The bell method is recommended for newborn circumcision.
 
 
 
When should I have circumcision?
 
Circumcision can be performed at any age, unless the baby has a problem, the first few days after birth is the most appropriate time. The event that will have a negative effect on the child is the method of circumcision rather than the circumcision itself. Although it is a controversial issue, pediatric specialists recommend that circumcision should be performed as early as possible before the age of 2 or after the age of 6 to avoid psychological problems for children.
